*** Breeding Program
At Pointer's Edge breeding is not our primary focus. Litters are planned only when there is sufficient interest and suitable homes identified in advance. A waitlist is maintained for prospective owners who wish to be considered. This approach ensures that every breeding is intentional, responsible, and aligned with our commitment to the highest standards of care and placement.
We want the absolute best for you and your new loyal companion, and health is definitely a priority for us. All of our dogs are screened for genetic abnormalities and health tested through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for eyes, hips, elbows, advanced and basic cardiac. Their DNA is also screened for any common testable diseases such as cone degeneration and von willebrands.
Our puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee for severe inherited health problems, as long as they are not spayed/neutered early (At maturity age of 2 year old), fed an appropriate diet and not overweight. They will be registered with The Canadian Kennel Club on a non-breeding contract. Each puppy goes home with their first vaccines, tails docked, microchip and have undergone 4 rounds of deworming. This proactive approach aligns with our commitment to providing you with a happy, healthy, and well-prepared addition to your family. We will additionally add a 30 day pet insurance trial.
They will have early neurological stimulation and noise desensitization completed at the required ages. The pups start potty training at 3 weeks old and continue until they go home which makes house training a breeze. The puppies are exposed to many things as they grow such as different surfaces, smells, sounds, people, animals, nature. Pups are also taught to come when they are called with our puppy call which makes teaching them their name and recall much easier! They also have an introduction to crate training starting around 6 weeks old, with frequent naps in a crate with some of their siblings. At 7 weeks, they go through a temperament test, structural evaluation and Veterinarian exam that helps me choose the best puppy for each family. Confirmed families are welcome to come and visit the puppies at 7 weeks old, and then the pups head out to their new homes at 8 weeks!
We love our DK's just as much as you do! It is important to us that you are paired up with your match.
Once you have determined your interest in our puppies and have filled out our Application Form for us to get to know you a little better, we will then determine which puppy will be best suited for you. We will be evaluating our puppies during our puppy culture program which we will get to know each and every one of them to be best paired with you.
